- Description
- 1 videocassette (Betacam SP) (28 min.) : sd., col. SP; 1/2 in.
- Summary
- Literary critic Harold Bloom speaks with Theater talk co-hosts Michael Riedel and Susan Haskins about his new book Shakespeare: the invention of the human. Bloom explains his view that Shakespeare, through his writing, created the modern notion what it means to be human being with a personality, emotions and an inner life. He also discusses what he views as the "trivialization" in the way Shakespeare is taught by college professors; his dissatisfaction with current "high-concept" stage productions of Shakespeare's works; and his admiration for Shakespearean characters Falstaff and Hamlet.
