Summary
Excerpts from several ballets, performed by the Mexican ballet company, El Ballet de Monterrey in the New York City debut. The performances are interspersed with panel discussions, moderated by Tony Bechara. Panelists include Robert Hill, choreographer, director and creative force behind the Ballet de Monterrey and former principal dancer with American Ballet Theater, New York City Ballet and Royal Ballet; and Yolanda Santos-Garza, the company's founder. Santos-Garza talks about the city of Monterrey, Mexico and what led her to create this ballet company. Robert Hill tells how he came to be involved with the Monterrey Ballet, the focus of the company, and it's hope for the future. Moderator Tony Bechara talks about the title of one of the dances, Ojalá, which comes from Arabic, meaning God's will. The word is used today to express a yearning for something.
