Summary
Wes Chapman, ballet master for the American Ballet Theatre and former principal dancer with ABT, provides an overview of ABT's national training program. Chapman then moderates a panel discussion with Franco De Vita, Principal of the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School and Gage Bush England, ABT ballet mistress and founder of the ABT Studio Company. England provides an overview of the school's origins and describes programming at the school, including the summer training program. Franco De Vita talks about the various ages of the dancers and introduces the demonstrations performed by the students. Kirk Peterson, Artistic Director of the ABT Studio Company and ABT Studio Company member Eric Tamm, join the panel. Eric describes his experience as a Studio Company dancer and Kirk Peterson discusses the transition students make moving from the school into the Studio Company; preparing the dancers for the rigorous rehearsal schedule; working with new choreographers; and how the Studio Company functions as an ambassador for ABT. The discussions are interspersed with selected performances.
