Summary
  1. Kia Corthron discusses her career with Newsday critic Linda Winer. The playwright speaks about her issue-oriented, political plays: Breath, boom, Cage rhythm, Life by asphyxiation, Slide glide the slippery slope, Splash hatch on the E going down, and Wake up Lou Riser, which address such subjects as imprisonment, genetic engineering, environmental racism, and teenage pregnancy. Corthron expounds on her writing, which she feels should not be predictable to the audience, and the deep connection between art and politics she expresses in her work.
