Summary
Lourdes López moderates a panel discussion with dancer/choreographer, Ib Andersen. Includes footage of Andersen, Heather Watts, and the New York City Ballet dancing Concerto for two solo pianos, choreographed by Peter Martin and music by Igor Stravinsky. Andersen discusses what preserving the Balanchine legacy means to him; what is the essence of Balanchine choreography; and the experience of teaching Balanchine dancing to a new generation of dancers. Also includes rehearsal footage from the ballet Mozartiana choreographed by George Balanchine for Ib Andersen in 1981. Andersen discusses the length of time it ook to truly learn how to dance Mozartiana; and how he functions as an artistic director. He then introduces excerpts from the ballet Mosaik; describes how dance has changed during his life as a dancer; comments on the low attendance at dance performances in the United States; and where he would like to see Ballet Arizona five years from now. Andersen then introduces the excerpts from his ballet Elevations.
