- Summary
The International Mime Festival records contain documents relating to the mounting of the International Mime Institute and Festival at Viterbo College, the first mime festival of its kind in the United States. The collection primarily contains correspondence tracking administrative details of the festival, as well as festival materials, including applications, student lists, publicity materials, and business records. Correspondents include Jean Louis Barrault, Charles Chaplin, Mata and Hari, and Noel Parenti.
- Biography
The International Mime Institute and Festival took place at Viterbo College in LaCrosse, Wisconsin in July of 1974. This three week event was a result of two years of work by teachers at Viterbo College, headed by Louis Campbell. Mimes and theatrical dance troupes from around the country and around the world were invited to attend either in a performance capacity, as a student, or as a teacher of one of many workshops. Notable participants included Dimitri, Boris Hybner, Mummenschanz, Noel Parenti, and Ctibor Turba.
