Summary
This program features a panel discussion about Central Park, a trilogy of one-act operas presented by New York City Opera in 1999. The program is interspersed with performances of musical excerpts from the three operas, each of which has a different composer and librettist, but are tied together by the Central Park setting. The librettists, who are all well known playwrights and were commissioned first, discuss their choice of park location and subject, and the composers discuss how they found the proper musical expression for the playwrights' distinctive styles.
