Summary
In this program, filmmaker Matthew Barney and composer Jonathan Bepler discuss their collaboration on several of Barney's Cremaster films, and clips from Cremaster 3 are screened to illustrate their talk. Barney talks about using music as a structuring device in his work, while Bepler discusses how the physical elements of Cremaster 3's Chrysler Building setting helped to guide his instrumentation for the film, and how his work with Barney in general represents an attempt to bring opposing elements into balance. The discussion is followed by a live performance conceived for the program, and utlizing music from each Cremaster film.
