Through interviews with relatives, friends and colleagues and extensive archival footage of Amaya dancing, the film explores Amaya's career history; her relationship with guitarist "Sabicas" (Agustin Castellon); her revolutionary influence on flamenco, particularly as the first woman to perform in a masculine style and costume; her fame and appearances in Hollywood films; her personal life and relationship with her extended family; and the nature of gypsy culture.
