Description
1 videodisc (NTSC) (84 min.) : sd., col.; 4 3/4 in.
Summary
This program features a panel discussion of choreographer Pascal Rioult's El Mozote, interspersed with performances of excerpts from the dance. The panelists discuss the 1981 massacre in El Mozote, El Salvador that gives the piece its name, and the main character, Rufina Amaya, who was the sole survivor. They also talk about the Latin-American folk traditions that inspired the piece musically, choreographically, and dramatically, the influence of the Mayan Popol vuh in the depiction of the massacre, and the collaboration between Rioult and theatre director/dramaturg Tubert to convey the story clearly through movement.
