- Description
- 1 videodisc (DVD) (NTSC) (74 min.) : sd., col.; 4 3/4 in.
- Summary
- This program focuses on the comic theatre piece Velocity, which eschews dialogue and relies on physical comedy for its effects. A panel discussion is interspersed with excerpts from the piece, which portrays a day in the life of three New York City businessmen, and with clips from a variety of comedy movies, including silent Chaplin and Keaton films and Bugs Bunny cartoons. Director Mark Lonergan discusses the inspiration he draws from these films, the impulse to communicate visually rather than through words, and the importance of rhythm and precise choreography to physical comedy. The three performers talk about their backgrounds in acting, dance, and gymnastics, all of which play a role in their work. The program also includes an original film piece inspired by the opening New York montage in the movie On the town.
