Description
1 videodisc (NTSC) (93 min.) : sd., col.; 4 3/4 in.
Summary
This program features panel discussions of two new productions for the 2000-2001 New York City Opera season, interspersed with performances of arias and duets from the operas. The first group of panelists discusses Giuseppe Verdi's musical innovations and use of orchestration to convey characterization in Rigoletto, and the opera's source material, Victor Hugo's play Le roi s'amuse. The panelists for the segment on Giacomo Puccini's La bohème discuss the production's non-traditional 1914 setting and naturalistic design, and the opera's non-heroic, complex characters.
