Summary
Veteran performer Lotte Lenya discusses her life and career, beginning with her youth in Weimar Germany. She speaks of the "Great Inflation" that crippled Germany's economy in the early 1920s, exotic cabaret performers such as Anita Berber, and her husband, composer Kurt Weill. She performs the song I'm a stranger here myself from Weill's Broadway musical One touch of Venus, with lyrics by Ogden Nash, and The Bilbao-song from Weill's Happy end, with lyrics by Bertolt Brecht. Host Dick Cavett joins Lenya for the second song, which is performed in German.
