Samuel L. Holmes (1788-1853) of Bedford and Brooklyn, New York was an educator, New York State Assemblyman and, at the time of his death, Superintendent of Public Schools in Brooklyn. Holmes and Huldah Bouton (1800-1874) were teachers in Bedford during their courtship.
