Summary
This program examines two ballets restaged by American Ballet Theatre. Kevin McKenzie discusses the "theater" aspect of American Ballet Theatre's repertoire and the significance of Billy the Kid and Fall River legend in the company's development. Excerpts from each ballet are interspersed with discussion about their choreographic and narrative styles. Ethan Stiefel discusses creating the role of Billy. McKenzie and Georgina Parkinson speak about working with Agnes de Mille, Susan Jaffe discusses how she prepared for the role of Lizzie Borden, and Robert Hill comments on how the ballet influenced his own choreography.
