Summary
This program features panel discussions on two new productions for the 1999 season at New York City Opera. Each segment includes arias or duets performed by singers from the productions, interspersed with discussions with the singers, conductors, and dramaturg Cori Ellison. The first panelists discuss the historical reception of Abduction from the seraglio, the presentation of Turks in the opera, the significance of the opera in Mozart's career, and the musical structure and style of the opera. The second panelists discuss the significance of Falstaff in Verdi's career, Verdi's interest in Shakespeare and the relationship between the opera and The merry wives of Windsor, the musical style and innovations of the opera. Singers in both panels discuss their roles.
