Summary

1. Report on novelist Toni Morrison's first-time efforts as a songwriter for the new musical New Orleans, currently being developed for Broadway. Morrison speaks about her experiences working on the project, and is shown working with composer and arranger Dorothea Freitag, co-author and director Donald McCale, and folk singer Odetta, who stars in the show. The play, set in New Orleans' red light district Storyville, concerns a clash between the prostitutes and "respectable elements" of the community.
