Summary
The collection, formed by Pierre F. Simon, consists of autograph letters from over sixty artists of the 19th and 20th centuries, spanning many of the major artistic movements and schools of the period. French painters are heavily represented, but French artists who worked in other media, and artists of other nationalities who lived and worked in France, are also included. The letters are often personal in nature, offering insight into the humanity of each artist and their social and professional lives. Several letters are illustrated.
