- Drawings in pencil, heightened in watercolor; all signed "John Leech."
- Published illustrations have legends: "Mr. Jorrocks has a bye day," "Mind the bull," "Mr. Barege and the draft," "Mr. Jorrocks (loq.): 'Come hup, I say.--You ugly beast!'" and "Pigg in the melon frame" (facing p. 187, 343, 439, 106 and 485 respectively).
- Size of primary supports: 16 x 21 cm.
- Album consists of 5 leaves of light gray cardboard in which the drawings are matted, 2 blank leaves of light gray paper at beginning and 2 at end.
- Laid in: Ms. note, unsigned and undated, which reads: "The last 5 are from his pocketbook almost the last he ever carried for it was in the autumn of 1864 during his visit to Germany. He died in October ..."--Typescript note signed, 1976 Aug. 3, by Joseph T. Rankin, then curator of the George Arents Collections, which reads: "From a comparison with other Leech drawings in the Arents Collections and the executed plates, it seems likely that this set of drawings are actually copies by another ... hand, after the published plates."
