Summary
Panel discussion with choreographers presenting their work at the Festival de Châteauvallon. Merce Cunningham discusses his interest in dance and movement; the relationship between music and dance and his use of electronic music; his use of Life Forms computer software; his use of chance operations in his choreography; how dance on video differs from dance on the stage. An excerpt from Beach birds for camera is screened. Jean-Claude Gallotta discusses Cunningham's influence on his choreography; the revival of his piece Ulysse, and the theme of memory in his work. David Vaughan speaks about Cunningham's importance in the history of modern dance. Cunningham discusses the use of computers for archiving dance. A clip of Maurice Béjart rehearsing dancers at the Avignon Festival is screened. The recording ends abruptly.
