Summary
  1. This program was part of a week-long series of films relating to Merce Cunningham shown on MetroArts/Thirteen. The program begins with an interview in which Cunningham discusses how and why he uses chance procedures in creating choreography. Cunningham also discusses differences between the versions of Points in space for camera and stage, and technical aspects of the production of Variations V. Following the interview a documentary on the production of Points in space is shown. Merce Cunningham and John Cage discuss Points in space and their views on music and dance. Interspersed are scenes of the company rehearsing for the filming of the dance in London. The actual filmed work appears 27 min. into the documentary and lasts 28 min. A film of Variations V, originally telecast in Germany in 1966, concludes the program.
