Summary
This disc contains unedited excerpts from an interview with Merce Cunningham on the subject of Black Mountain College, where Cunningham taught periodically beginning in 1948. Only Cunningham's comments are excerpted on the disc. He discusses recollections of fellow staff and students, including Josef Albers, Charles Olson, and Willem De Kooning; a theatrical performance created by John Cage and known as the first "happening;" Cunningham's first collaboration with Robert Rauschenberg; and the communal atmosphere and schooling system of the college.
