Summary

1. Feature film intended as a realistic look at an American ballet company. The story centers on the professional and personal life of Ry, a rising young ballet dancer. The film contains numerous performance and rehearsal excerpts from ballets in the repertory of the Joffrey Ballet of Chicago, spotlighting the company's acquisition of Robert Desrosiers' ballet The blue snake, first produced by the National Ballet of Canada in 1985. Desrosiers and American choreographer Lar Lubovitch, denoted only as "the choreographers," essentially play themselves in the film.
