Summary
Profile of Ukrainian-born ballet dancer Vladimir Malakhov, with emphasis on his physical and expressive gifts as a performer. He is seen in rehearsal and performance footage of three ballets: Kenneth MacMillan's Manon, danced with members of the Vienna State Opera Ballet; Renato Zanella's Voyage (seen in its entirety), a solo choreographed especially for him to music from Mozart's piano concerto no. 23; and Peter Wright's Giselle, danced with Yseult Lendvai and the National Ballet of Canada. In interviews Malakhov shares his reflections on each work, and on the physical challenges of dancing and his nomadic life as a dancer. The other interviewees, among them ballet masters Reid Anderson, Renato Zanella, and Magdalena Popa, comment on his special qualities in performance.
