Description
  1. 1 videocassette (VHS, NTSC) (62 min.) : sd., col.; 1/2 in.
Summary
  1. Unedited footage recorded for the documentary Limón: a life beyond words. Charles Humphrey Woodford is the son of Doris Humphrey (1895-1958), who was José Limón's choreographic mentor and the artistic director of his dance company. He discusses the communal apartment in New York City shared by his parents, Charles Weidman, Limón, and other members of the Humphrey-Weidman Company; Weidman's farm in Blairstown, N.J.; Limón's New York apartment; and his childhood memories of personalities and activities in these places. Recalling the many interconnections among the group, he discusses his own filial relationship with Limón and his wife Pauline Lawrence, and his observations of the relationships between Limón and Lawrence, and Limón and Humphrey. He describes the illnesses and deaths of first Humphrey, then Lawrence and Limón, and the life changes he observed in Limón. The conclusion of this interview (ca. 4 min.) appears on *MGZIA 4-8150 [Interview with Nina Watt]; in that footage, Woodford continues his discussion of Limón's life changes, notes his bent for symbolic thinking, and summarizes his contributions as choreographer, dancer, and person.
