Contents
  1. Cassette 1. [Bambi Anderson teaching There is a time] (ca. 25 min.) / recorded onstage at the New World School of the Arts. Choreography, José Limón; music, Norman dello Joio; danced by students of the school. This recording, which was not intended to document the dance work, consists of excerpts danced by the students, most of whom are in costume. The camera angles shift throughout the recording, and the action is sometimes filmed from upstage or in close shots. There are many shots of Bambi Anderson as she watches the rehearsal. She can occasionally be heard from off-camera, counting or giving directions.
  2. [Interview with Daniel Lewis] (ca. 34 min.) / recorded outdoors at his home; interviewer, Ann Vachon. Topics include: his first contact with the Limón company; his studies with Limón at the Juilliard School; joining the company; his friendship with Limón's wife Pauline Lawrence; deciding between Limón and Martha Graham; becoming Limón's assistant, and directing the company after his death; the creation of Limón's Choreographic Offering; the influence of dancers Louis Falco and Sarah Stackhouse [referred to as "Sally"] on Limón's choreography; the creation of The winged; the benefits of Limón's association with the Juilliard School; Martha Hill's contributions to the dance world; anecdotes of Limón in private life.
  3. Cassette 2. [Interview with Daniel Lewis, continued] (ca. 18 min.) / topics include: the creation of The unsung; the father-son relationship of Limón and Lewis; the working relationship of Limón and Louis Falco; the creation of My son, my enemy; Limón's encouragement of his dancers' choreography; his dislike of the commercialism later adopted by Falco.
  4. [Daniel Lewis and Ann Vachon examine photographs] (ca. 40 min.) / recorded indoors at Lewis' home. During most of this segment the photographs are not visible on screen, but Lewis and Vachon exchange numerous anecdotes and reminiscences sparked by the images they see. The camera also pans to a sculpture of Limón's head by Anita Wechsler.
