Summary

Jerome Robbins, assisted by ballet master Sara Leland, directs a rehearsal of The concert. This session includes extensive rehearsal of the opening of the ballet (Berceuse, op. 57) and the pas de deux (Prelude, op. 28) that follows. Robbins demonstrates various roles and discusses how the ballet should be performed, the motivations of the characters, and the parody of classical ballet in the pas de deux. Each section is rehearsed by multiple casts. Full casts appear on discs 1 and 3; on disc 2, Robbins works solely with the dancers rehearsing the roles of the mad ballerina and the shy boy.
