Biography
St. Clair Drake (1911-1990), educator and social anthropologist, taught sociology at Roosevelt and Stanford Universities, as well as the Universities of Ghana and Liberia. From the 1930s to the 1980s, he studied Caribbean and West African social life, and the black communities of Chicago, Illinois and Great Britain. He was a prolific lecturer and writer whose major work, "Black Metropolis" (1945) is a study of African-Americans in Chicago.
