The Knee plays were originally the American section of the opera entitled the CIVIL warS, conceived as a world-wide theater piece to be presented in conjunction with the Olympic games in Los Angeles in 1984. The American section is by Robert Wilson and David Byrne and was presented by the Walker Art Center in association with the Guthrie Theater. The Knee plays are a series of fourteen three-five-minute entr'actes which form important connecting interludes joining the fifteen scenes of the larger operatic work, the CIVIL warS.
