A contemporary hand has written in ink on the table of contents, offering suggestions as to the authorship of several of the anonymous works: A legend of the lonely lake, Sunshine and cloud, The morning star, The cross of Constantine, and the words to "I called on the hopes of the years that are past" are attributed to Lady Flora Hastings; The evening hour is attributed to "Miss Julia Campbell, now Mrs. Langford Brooks," and under the name "M. A. Jervis," composer of "Tyrolienne," is the ink note: "now Mrs. Dyce Sombré."
