Contents
  • [Chorégraphes du XXe siècle] (1995; ca. 7 min.) / in French; two brief news reports from French television, publicizing a program presented by the Ballet de l'Opéra de Paris at the Opéra Bastille in Jan. 1995. Titled Chorégraphes du XXe siècle, the program featured works by four great 20th-century choreographers: Martha Graham's Temptations of the moon, George Balanchine's Agon, Jiri Kylian's Sinfonietta, and Roland Petit's Le jeune homme et la mort. Much of the discussion focuses on Temptations of the moon, the first work by Graham to be staged by the company. The first report includes an interview with Patrick Dupond, director of dance at the Opéra; the second features ballerina Marie-Claude Pietragalla, who dances leading roles in both Temptations of the moon and Le jeune homme et la mort. Dupond also dances in excerpts from Temptations of the moon; and Nicolas Le Riche plays the young man in Le jeune homme et la mort.
  • Die Kameliendame (c1992; ca. 78 min.) / credits in German; recorded at the National Theater, Prague; co-produced by TV 2000 and Mediarex Prag; directed by Petr Weigl; choreography, Robert Balogh; music, Giuseppe Verdi, Ladislav Simon; scenery, Josef Svoboda; costumes, Josef Jelínek; danced by the ballet company of the National Theater of Prague [Národní divadlo v Praze]; music performed by the Philharmonic Orchestra S.A.I. Prague, conducted by Vladimir Válek. Cast: Daria Klimentová (Marguerite); Stanislav Fečo (Armand); Jaroslav Slavický (Armand's father); Zuzana Tesařová (Flora); Jan Kadlec (street youth); others. Ballet based on Alexandre Dumas's novel La dame aux camélias and its operatic incarnation, Verdi's La traviata.
  • Picasso et la danse (c1994; ca. 82 min.) / letterbox format; German version of a video originally released in French. Two-part program consisting of the documentary Histoire d'un mariage, written, directed, and narrated by Didier Baussy-Oulianoff; and video footage directed by Yvon Gerault of two ballets performed by the Ballet de l'Opéra de Paris. The program explores Pablo Picasso's artistic collaboration with Serge Diaghilev's Ballets russes, particularly his designs for Leonide Massine's ballets Parade, Le tricorne (The three-cornered hat), Pulcinella, and Mercure, and Bronislava Nijinska's Le train bleu. The two ballets performed are Le train bleu (ca. 24 min.), its original choreography reconstructed by Frank W.D. Ries and Irina Nijinska; and Le tricorne, staged by Massine's son Lorca Massine. The cast for Le train bleu is led by Elisabeth Maurin (Perlouse), Nicolas Le Riche (Beau Gosse), Clothilde Vayer (the tennis champion), and Laurent Quéval (the golfer). The cast for Le tricorne is led by Kader Belarbi (the miller), Françoise Legrée (the miller's wife), and Fabrice Bourgeois (the corregidor).
