Summary

Documentary on the legacy of legendary dancer-choreographer Rudolf Nureyev. The tribute is framed by events of a single day, January 20, 2003, and follows a young ballet student, Grégoire Lansier, as he travels from a ballet class at the Ecole de danse to the studios and stage of the Palais Garnier, where he watches rehearsals for the evening's gala performance in honor of Nureyev. Grégoire and his fellow students also rehearse for and perform in the evening's Défilé, the Paris Opéra Ballet's traditional procession of students and company members. In the process, Nureyev is remembered by dancers and administrators of the Opéra, who discuss his qualities as a dancer, his personal characteristics, and his considerable achievements during his tenure as artistic director of the Paris Opéra Ballet. Archival footage and news stories depict him in major roles and important events in his life.
