Summary
Report on Ballet Hispanico of New York, a dance company founded and directed by Tina Ramírez with the goal of preserving the cultural heritage of Hispanic Americans and bringing it to the awareness of a wider audience. In addition to rehearsal and performance footage, some of it shot in the company's Manhattan studios, the report also covers the company's tour to Ohio and Kentucky, where it is seen not only in performances but in outreach activities: a flamenco class taught by Ramírez at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, and a mambo class taught by dancers Eduardo Vilaro and Lynne Morrissey at Ashland Community College in Kentucky. Ramírez, Vilaro, and dancer José Costas discuss various aspects of the company. Performance excerpts include George Faison's Café America; Ramón Oller's Good night, paradise; and Solo, a flamenco dance performed by Costas with a bowl of water on his head.
