Description
  1. 1 videocassette (VHS, NTSC) (90 min.) : sd., col.; 1/2 in.
Summary
  1. The first segment on the tape records a performance by students in the Horton Workshop on the outdoor stage at Jacob's Pillow. Two pieces are performed; the first is performed twice by female students; the second piece is performed first by male students and then repeated twice by female students. The second segment on the tape consists of two brief excerpts from preparations for a performance by Mikhail Baryshnikov presented by Jacob's Pillow in Springfield, Mass. The first shows American Ballet Theatre dancers (who performed with Baryshnikov) warming up backstage; the second shows Jacob's Pillow students performing on the steps of the Springfield Symphony Hall, probably prior to the performance. Baryshnikov does not appear on the tape. The third segment on the tape records an informal performance by students in the Pillow Jazz Project. Two pieces from the project's repertory class are performed. The first, Sweet gentle love, was choreographed by Jacob's Pillow faculty member Charles Wright to music by The crusaders. The second, Prayer, peace and protest, was choreographed by Lynn Simonson to music by Max Roach and Abbey Lincoln. After these performances, individual students perform in a talent show format, including dance solos, songs, a monologue, a sketch about the New York City subway, and a dance parody of Ruth St. Denis.
