Summary
The Production stills series consists of scenes from motion picture, television and theater productions (189?-198?) featuring African-American actors in a variety of roles, as part of all-black casts as well as mixed race casts. African-Americans actors are featured in lead, supporting and minor roles. Theatrical productions constitute the largest body of stills in this series and include pieces from the turn-of-the-century, the Harlem Renaissance, through to the Black Theatre Movement of the 1960s and 1970s. Included are Broadway, off-Broadway and some student productions. The collection includes productions by Williams and Walker, Cole and Johnson, Miller and Lyles, Sissle and Blake as well as productions of the American Negro Theatre and the Negro Ensemble Company, among others.
