Program One: American Theatre Wing Working in the theatre seminar. Performance (91 min.). Hosted and moderated by Isabelle Stevenson, president, American Theatre Wing. Moderators: Jean Dalrymple, director American Theatre Wing and George White, director, O'Neill Foundation. Panelists: theatrical agent Lionel Larner and actors Matthew Broderick, Jim Dale, Rosemary Harris, Charles Dutton and Glenda Jackson. Discussion includes the panelists' various experiences working in the theater and performing in such shows as Biloxi Blues, Joe Egg, Pack of Lies, Ma Rainey's Black bottom and Strange interlude. The discussion is followed by question and answer session with audience members.
Program Two: American Theatre Wing Working in the theatre seminar. Design (95 min.). Hosted and moderated by Isabelle Stevenson. Panelists: Joseph Maharam, president, Joseph Maharam Foundation; Joseph Papp, producer/director New York Shakespeare Festival; producer Lee Breuer; director Wiliam Raymond; designers Allen Lee Hughes, Leslie Taylor, Herman Chessid and Patricia Zipprodt; theater critic Mel Gussow; Henry Hewes; and Jean Dalrymple. The panelists discuss their experiences in designing sets, costumes and lighting for the theater. Papp and Maharam present the 1982-83 Joseph Maharam Foundation Awards for Theater Design to members of the experimental theater collective Mabou Mines for the works Cold Harbor, Hajj, and Company; to Ming Cho Lee for the play K2 (award accepted by his assistant Leslie Taylor), and to Patricia Zipprodt for the plays Don Juan and Alice in Wonderland. The recipients discuss their design work and then respond to questions from audience members.
