- Description
- 1 videocassette (VHS, NTSC) (20 min.) : sd., col. with b&w sequences; 1/2 in.
- Summary
- Compilation of film clips, interview footage, and still photographs of Rudolf Nureyev at various stages of his life, depicting him in performance, rehearsal, and private life. In interviews he discusses his beginnings as a dancer; his concept of the theater as his home; his efforts to expand the role of the male dancer; his forays into modern dance; his belief in the importance of experimentation, and the continuing need to learn and explore; and his concept of ballet as a means of communication. The program begins with footage of Nureyev conducting a rehearsal of Igor Stravinsky's Apollon musagète. Among the many dance excerpts included are the prince's variation from The sleeping beauty, Act III; Glen Tetley's Pierrot lunaire; Murray Louis' Moments; Louis' The Canarsie Venus; Paul Taylor's Aureole; Maurice Béjart's Chant du compagnon errant (Song of the wayfarer); and the male variation from Le corsaire pas de deux.
