Description
  1. 1 videocassette (VHS, NTSC) (114 min.) : sd., col.; 1/2 in.
Summary
  1. Two-part lecture-demonstration on the special qualities and fine points of George Balanchine's ballet technique. The panelists, all former ballerinas with New York City Ballet who currently teach at the School of American Ballet, recall Balanchine's teaching, his rethinking of traditional ways of executing ballet movements, and his ability to enhance his dancers' gifts through both his teaching and his choreography. Brief excerpts from his ballets illustrate many of their points, and four full variations are danced in Part 2. In Part 1, Merrill Ashley discusses barre exercises, and Suki Schorer pointe work. Schorer's presentation continues in Part 2, followed by Kay Mazzo on variations and moderator Peter Boal on male variations.
