Summary

Jerome Robbins, composer Morton Gould and pianist Richard Moredock work together on the music for Robbins' ballet, I'm old fashioned. Gould and Moredock play variations on the piano. Robbins and Gould discuss Gould's score, Robbins' plans for the ballet, and Fred Astaire's films and choreography. Moredock is not present at all sessions. Some of the variations played on these recordings were not used in the ballet.

Variations on I'm old fashioned, also known as Astaire variations, is a ballet tribute to Fred Astaire, with music by Morton Gould, based on Jerome Kern's song I'm old fashioned, from the motion picture You were never lovelier (Columbia, 1942). The ballet premiered on June 16, 1983.
