- Summary
- Jerome Robbins is interviewed by DeWitt Sage about his work on the ballet Variations on I'm old fashioned. The interviewer speaks from off-camera. Robbins discusses the music for the ballet, and the differences between working with a pre-existing score and working with a score created specially for a ballet; how the project began and his interactions with Fred Astaire; Astaire's choreography; why he chose a career in dance. Some questions and answers are repeated.

- Variations on I'm old fashioned is a ballet tribute to Fred Astaire, with music by Morton Gould, based on Jerome Kern's song I'm old fashioned, from the motion picture You were never lovelier (Columbia, 1942). The ballet premiered on June 16, 1983.
- This tape is one of 36 made between Sept. and Nov. 1982 for a projected documentary on the making of I'm old fashioned. DeWitt Sage, Joel Gold and John Goberman were involved in the project, which was never produced.
