Segment one: Channel five news, aired October 5, 1986, 10:00 p.m. Marian Etoile Watson reports on The colored museum, currently in rehearsals at the Public Theater. Brief segments from interviews with director Lee Kenneth Richardson, playwright George C. Wolfe, and cast members Loretta Devine, Tommy Hollis, Reggie Montgomery, Vickilyn Reynolds, and Danitra Vance. Includes rehearsal footage, particularly of the scene The hairpiece.
Segment two: Channel 2 news at six, aired CBS, September 29, 1986, 5:00 p.m. Time capsule segment recaps the record-breaking performance of A chorus line three years earlier. Includes performance footage of the musical number One (Reprise).
Segment three: Name of show and airdate unknown. Aired on New York Telephone corporate television. Coverage of the party at the Central Park boathouse celebrating the 30th anniversary party of free Shakespeare in Central Park. Kitty Carlisle Hart, chairman of the New York State Council on the Arts thanks New York Telephone for their sponsorship of the New York Shakespeare Festival. Producer Joseph Papp sings Accentuate the positive.
Segment four: Night life with David Brenner, aired Channel 7, October 9, 1986, 12:30 a.m. David Brenner interviews actor Loretta Swit about her role in The mystery of Edwin Drood.
Segment five: Lifestyles of the rich and famous, aired Channel 11, October 19, 1986, 8:00 p.m. Robin Leach hosts a segment in which actor Stacy Keach tours New York City. Includes footage of Keach meeting with Joseph Papp at the Public Theater.
Segment six: Midday, aired Channel 5, November 5, 1986, 12:00 p.m. Bill Boggs interviews the cast of The colored museum. Loretta Devine, Tommy Hollis, Reggie Montgomery, Vickilyn Reynolds, and Danitra Vance discuss their roles and the influence of the plays A raisin in the sun and For colored girls who have considered suicide, when the rainbow is enuf. Includes still photos from the production.
Segment seven: Live at five, aired Channel 4, November 7, 1986, 5:00 p.m. Jack Cafferty interviews Danitra Vance about her role in The colored museum and audience reaction to the play.
Segment eight: Live at five, aired Channel 4. Aired between November 3-7, 1986. Sue Simmons interviews performer Betty Buckley about her role in Song and dance. Includes footage of Buckley performing Take that look off your face (reprise).
Segment nine: Black news, aired Channel 5, November 15, 1986, 10:30 p.m. Marian Etoile Watson interviews George C. Wolfe and Loretta Devine about The colored museum. Includes rehearsal footage of the scene The hairpiece.
Segment ten: News four New York, aired Channel 4, December 7, 1986, 11:00 p.m. Report on the 1986 Kennedy Center Honors and on the AIDS benefit held that evening at the Public Theater. Conceived by composer/conductor Leonard Bernstein, the benefit raised money for the American Foundation for AIDS Research. Includes performance footage of the benefit.
Segment eleven: Do not enter: the visa war against ideas, aired Channel 13, January 6, 1987, 11:00 p.m. Segment from the documentary on the McCarran-Walter Act of 1952, which allowed foreigners to be denied visas to the United States if they were considered "prejudicial to the public interest." This segment focuses on the playwrights Dario Fo and Franca Rame and mentions that Fo was denied a visa in 1982 when he was scheduled to perform at the New York Shakespeare Festival.
