Description
  1. 1 videocassette (VHS, NTSC) (52 min.) : sd., col.; 1/2 in.
Summary
  1. Documentary on the difficult student-teacher relationship between the Russian ballet teacher Ludmila Pavlovna Sakharova, artistic director of the Perm City Ballet School, and her promising student Natalia Balakhnecheva. Much of the film focuses on rehearsals for Balakhnecheva's performances in the 1994 International Ballet Competition in St. Petersburg, in which she danced the Act II pas de deux from Giselle and Lament at the door, a solo that she choreographed herself. The film emphasizes the psychological as well as the physical challenges of a ballet dancer's training, and provides a penetrating close-up of one teacher's approach.
