- Summary
- Profile of Indian dancer Ram Gopal, now a resident of Venice. In an interview he discusses his parents; the opprobrium attached to dancing in his youth; his training in Kathakali dancing in Kerala; the religious aspects of Indian dance; joining the dance company of La Meri; his first meeting with British ballerina Alicia Markova; his perception of Serge Diaghilev's significance; his meeting with Vaslav Nijinsky in the 1940s; his belief that Eastern and Western dancers have much to learn from each other's disciplines and techniques. Dame Alicia Markova, who is also interviewed, discusses her first impressions of Ram Gopal's dancing, and their performances together in 1960. The program contains numerous film clips of Ram Gopal in performance.
