Segment one: NBC nightly news, aired Channel 4, April 23, 1988, 6:30 p.m. Connie Chung and Jennifer McLogan report on William Shakespeare's 424th birthday and some of the ways his plays are staged in the United States today. The New York Shakespeare Festival's Shakespeare Marathon, in which the entire canon will be performed in six years is discussed. Brief segment from interview with producer Joseph Papp about the casting of American film actors in the Shakespeare Marathon. Brief segments from interviews with actors Martin Sheen and Christopher Walken. Brief performance footage from A chorus line; Julius Caesar with Al Pacino (Marcus Antonius) and Martin Sheen (Brutus); and A midsummer night's dream with F. Murray Abraham (Bottom) and Elizabeth McGovern (Helena).

Segment three: Live at five, aired Channel 4, April 27, 1988, 5:00 p.m. Pia Lindstrom reports on the New York Art Theatre Institute production of Donald Sanders' adaptation of Edith Wharton's story Old New York : New Year's Day, playing on alternate days at the Theodore Roosevelt Birthplace and the Public Theater. Brief segments from interviews with Sanders, the founder of NYATI and director of the current production and his wife, designer Vanessa James, who designed the sets and costumes.
