[Contains extraneous noise.] Robbins discusses the difficulty of charting the future of the New York City Ballet; its foundation in the repertory of George Balanchine and the effect of new ballets on the company, Robbins' and co-director Peter Martins' roles in the company's day-to-day operations; their amicability and ability to share leadership of the company; the coordination of their creative work; the School of American Ballet and its relationship to the company; the flexibility of New York City Ballet as a company; its family-like atmosphere; the impact of Balanchine's legacy on the company; his early association with Balanchine; the possible revival by the company of his ballet Watermill (1972); the possibility of him doing future work on Broadway; his philanthropic efforts; the importance of role models in a dancer's development; choreographing for specific dancers; his dislike of being watched while choreographing [pause]; more on Robbins' and Martin's administrative roles at New York City Ballet; Robbins comments on his use of piano reduction for the rehearsal of his ballet I'm old fashioned (1983).
