Description
1 videodisc (DVD) (116 min.) : sd., col.; 4 3/4 in.
Summary
This program marks the rededication of the Martin Beck Theatre, a Broadway house built in 1924, as the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, named for the theater caricaturist who died in January 2003 at the age of 99. The ceremony was held two days after what would have been Hirschfeld's 100th birthday. A number of persons who were Hirschfeld's friends, colleagues, and the subjects of his drawings speak about the man and his times. Several songs are performed, and video clips celebrate Hirschfeld himself and his work. Brief excerpts from filmed interviews with Al Hirschfeld are included.
