  1. This is a synthetic collection, created from materials acquired through gift and purchase from various sources. The bulk of the materials was formerly owned by W. T. H. Howe and Owen D. Young. A number of letters were previously owned by T. Roderick Terry and contain his bookplate. The April 23, 1810 letter to Edward Fergus Graham contains Harry Bache Smith's bookplate.
