Contents
  • The first lesson (ca. 75 min.) / subtitled An introduction to the Alexander Technique with William Hurt and Jane Kosminsky. Kosminsky provides a brief biography of Frederick Matthias Alexander, the inventor of Alexander Technique, and explains its three-part method (self-observation, inhibition of incorrect habits, direction) and its four concepts of good use. With Hurt as a demonstrator, she presents some basic exercises: chair work, monkey [position], walking, and a self-lesson based on the technique's table work.
  • Solutions for back trouble (ca. 73 min.) / title given as Solutions for back pain on main menu. Deborah Caplan, a physical therapist and Certified Alexander Technique teacher, explains the Alexander Technique's approach to preventing back pain through correct usage of the body. With the help of demonstrators who have themselves overcome back problems by learning new habits, she describes four basic concepts of good use and their applications at home, in the office and in other everyday activities, and shows how to prevent back attacks.
