Summary
Members of the American Theatre Laboratory perform a series of improvisational exercises in which one member acts as the master controlling another as the puppet. Four exercises, each with a different pair of actors, are performed. There are breaks in the recording between exercises.

  • American Theatre Laboratory was created in 1966 by Jerome Robbins, with a $300,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. The experimental theater workshop rehearsed several projects and created many exercises, but did not produce any shows. Jerome Robbins directed all sessions. American Theatre Laboratory disbanded in 1968.
