Summary
Jerome Robbins directs a rehearsal of excerpts from the ballet Variations on I'm old fashioned. Bart Cook and Sara Leland demonstrate the choreography of I'm old fashioned, a dance performed by Fred Astaire and Rita Hayworth in the motion picture You were never lovelier, as reconstructed by Robbins, Cook and Leland. Joseph Duell and Judith Fugate rehearse the first variation from the ballet, and Christopher D'Amboise and Darci Kistler rehearse a pas de deux nicknamed Back to back, which was cut from the final version of Varations on I'm old fashioned. The three couples repeat their variations simultaneously. Robbins discusses the music and choreography for the ballet with Morton Gould and Gould discusses the music with pianist Richard Moredock. Robbins develops choreography with the dancers. At the end of the tape he begins to rehearse an ensemble nicknamed Tango, which was not used in the ballet. For the remainder of this rehearsal, see *MGZIA 4-6048.
